Version History & Recovery
Browse and restore previous versions of any note. Krokanti Notes saves up to 50 versions automatically.
Krokanti Notes automatically saves a version snapshot whenever you make meaningful changes to a note. You can browse the full version history and restore any previous version at any time.
Viewing Version History
- Open the note you want to inspect
- Click the clock icon (π) in the editor toolbar β or open the β― menu on mobile
- The version history panel opens on the right, showing all saved versions with timestamps
Each version entry shows:
- Date and time it was saved
- A short preview of the content
Previewing a Version
Click any version row in the history panel to preview that version's content in the editor. The editor switches to read-only mode and a banner appears at the top confirming you're viewing a past version.
While previewing, you can:
- Read the content of that version
- Restore it (replaces current content with the preview version)
- Close the panel (or click "Back to current") to return to the current version
Previewing doesn't change anything β it's safe to click through multiple versions to compare them. The current version is only replaced when you explicitly click Restore.
Restoring a Version
- Preview the version you want to restore
- Click Restore this version in the banner at the top
- The current note content is replaced with the restored version
- A new version snapshot is saved (so you can undo the restore if needed)
How Versioning Works
Krokanti Notes uses smart versioning to avoid filling your history with trivial keystroke saves. A new version snapshot is saved only when:
- More than 2 minutes have passed since the last snapshot, and
- The content has changed by more than 50 characters, or
- The note title has changed
This means opening a note, typing a comma, and closing it won't create a new version β but a meaningful edit session will.
Maximum versions per note: 50. When the limit is reached, the oldest version is automatically deleted.
Version history is not available for secure (encrypted) notes β since the server only stores the encrypted blob, decrypted version comparisons are not possible without exposing your PIN to our infrastructure.
Restoring a Deleted Note
If you accidentally delete a note (moved to trash), you can recover it within 30 days:
- Click Trash in the left sidebar
- Find the note and right-click it (or open it)
- Click Restore
The note moves back to your notes list with all content intact. Notes in the trash are permanently deleted after 30 days.
